Do most of you use flat tops or raised burners.

I use a raised burner. I am afraid that If I had a flat top stove I would end up missing the hot part or getting stupid and putting my hand on the tip to try to find the location of the burner. I like the convenience of having the raised burner so I know where to place the pots and where I can put my spoon tray. Things like that

I don't ever think I'd use a flat stove. no no no, sounds most dangerous.

No no, flat stoves/hobs're about the safest thing a VI person can use. We have a double oven with a flat ceramic hob downstairs, no raised rings I can actually feel or anything, but they give out quite a lot of heat, so I know if one of the rings is turned on or not, buy holding my hand about 10 centimetres away from the hob. For example, if I heat something up in a saucepan, boil eggs, cook pasta or mince, I slide the saucepan along the hob to the front righthand ring, which mum thought was easier and safer for me to use, so we stuck a braille label FR at the 12.00 position on the appropriate knob so I knew that was the knob I turned to light it. I have never burnt myself using our ceramic hob, and I'd recommend these hobs to anyone thinking of getting a new oven or kitchen. Also, you know your pan's on the ring you've turned on when you can only feel the heat round the edge of the ring.

I use a flat top. I have been using it for 2 years now and I would not use anything else. I absolutely love it. And like the previous poster said, if you turn it on, it puts off heat, don't touch it just feel where the heat is coming from and once you have successfully slid the pan onto the correct spot then the heat kind of goes away where you can't feel it as well. These stoves are great and super easy to clean!

i really can't stand the flat top stoves! it's much easier to tell if the pan is on the burner completely on the one that the burner sticks up. i have used both. so yeah, when dan and i were looking to buy a bran new house. we made sure it didn't have the flat top built in the counter. ewwww, no, no, no. hehehehe, smiles

I've only used stoves with raised burners (both gas and electric), but I think it would be interesting to try a flat top one. I'm sure it's a lot easier to clean.

I think it would be cool to use a flat top stove, although I have never used one. You wouldn't have to worry about trying to place a large pot on a burner that was too small if the big one was already taken up.
